The Akita Challenge Pin

Challenge Pins are issued each year by the Challenge Group, an association of Akita fanciers dedicated to raising funds for research into diseases that afflict Akitas.  Proceeds from sales of the first pin are being used to fund research into the genetics of PRA in the Akita.  The funds from 1999 and 2000 have been earmarked for research into Sebaceous Adenitis, an autoimmune mediated skin disease.  Money raised from the sale of Challenge Pins is turned over to the Akita Club of America. Currently, funds are being matched dollar for dollar, so each dollar spent results in two banked for Akita specific research by the Canine Health Foundation.  Money donated by national clubs is also partly matched by funds from club contributions to the AKC for this purpose.  Trophy sponsors are not only helping the club with our show expenses and providing a lasting, unique prize to an exhibitor, they are also furthering Akita health research.  Thank you for helping us better all our lives, both the dogs and the people who love them.
